PIM-Project (product information management) as initial spark for group-wide product consolidation: SPANSET takes data basis to a new level with the support of SQLI.

Security “Made by SpanSet”: What began around 60 years ago in Sweden with the manufacture of the first car safety belt, has developed to this day into one of the world’s leading companies in the fields of load-securing, lifting technologies and height safety. Meanwhile, 26 production and sales companies in 19 countries belong to the SpanSet Group, including competence centers in Switzerland, Germany, and Great Britain.


Digitalization and the global networking of all communication channels are also increasing the information and choice options for customers in the B2B sector, and competitive pressure is rising. For internationally operating groups, the harmonization of the product portfolio is therefore twice as important – both to exploit synergy potentials, and to strengthen the umbrella brand in the external image. The challenge for the SpanSet Group: Due to the decentralized holding structure with independent product ranges of the national companies, some of which have grown over decades, the first step was to merge and consolidate the product data silos. The goal: One “Single Source of Truth” as basis for group-wide product and e-commerce strategies.



Initiated by SpanSet Holding in Switzerland, the introduction of the Contentserv PIM system started in 20219, accompanied by SQLI as implementation partner.

Driven by the motto “To learn what SpanSet already knows”, the existing master data was merged, validated, and standardized starting from the competence centers in Switzerland, Germany, and the UK. Subsequently, the newly created common product master data – the so-called “Golden Record” – was connected to the ERP system. At the same time, SQLI introduced a data maintenance concept with binding workflows and responsibilities, to ensure consistently high data quality in the long term.

The great advantage of the central PIM solution: For the first time, the decentrally organized companies of the SpanSet Group can now access all product data of the sister companies connected to the PIM system online, and in real time. In addition to simplifying intercompany trading, the increased transparency also created the right conditions for strategic, data-driven management of the product portfolio. Valuable synergy potential can be analysed quickly and easily, and turned into cost reduction and efficiency gains.

As for the next digitalization step, a global e-commerce project is planned.


In close cooperation with the SpanSet project team, SQLI bundled the interests and expectations of the national subsidiaries in kick-off workshops, and developed the data process models required for a smooth migration. SQLI’s consultants supported the implementation with customized co-working and on-the-job training.
